大块的导体在磁场中运动或处在变化的磁场中,都要产生感应电动势形成涡流,引起较大的涡流损耗。
为减少涡流损耗,常将铁心用许多铁磁导体薄片(例如硅钢片)叠成,这些薄片被分开呈梯形状,表面涂有薄层绝缘漆或绝缘的氧化物。
磁场穿过薄片的狭窄截面时,涡流被限制在沿各片中的一些狭小回路流过,这些回路中的净电动势较小,回路的长度较大,再由于这种薄片材料的电阻率大,这样就可以显著地减小涡流损耗。
将许多金属导线做成非常细的多根导线,也是这个原理。

一、薄硅钢片因为截面积小,所以电阻大,而磁阻大硅钢片内部的涡流自然就小。而整块金属的电阻很小,所以涡流常常很强。
二、因为磁通穿过薄片的狭窄截面时 ,回路的长度较大,回路的电阻很大,涡流大为减弱。
三、再由于这种薄片材料的电阻率大(硅钢的涡流损失只有只有普通钢的1/5至1/4),从而使涡流损失大大降低。 要减少涡流,可采用的方法是把整块铁芯改成用薄片叠压的铁芯,增大回路电阻,削弱回路电流,
