碳复合耐火材料是由两种或两种以上不同性质的耐火氧化物和碳素材料及非氧化物材料为原料,用含碳有机物作为结合剂而制成的一种多相复合耐火材料。组成该材料的氧化物主要是MgO、Al2O3、ZrO2和MgAl2O4;碳主要是天然石墨;非氧化物物是从Al、Si、Mg等金属,AlSi、AlMg类的合金以及SiC,B4C之类的碳化物等。用这些原料通过添加树脂或沥青等结合荆加以成形,而得到的由氧化物、碳、非氧化物以及结合剂所组成的复合耐火材料。
碳复合耐火材料按显微结构分为陶瓷结合型与碳结合型两大类。典型的陶瓷结合制品有烧成油浸砖、黏土或高铝石墨制品等。其结构特点是通过高温烧成在耐火材料组分之间形成某种陶瓷结合,碳素材料填充在耐火材料颗粒之间或者气孔内。虽然烧成铝碳滑板及浸人式水口等类耐火材料制品中也存在一些结合碳膜,但其主要结合形式为陶瓷结合,仍属于陶瓷结合型碳复合耐火材料。碳结合耐火材料属于不烧耐火材料,其生产工艺一般是先将结合刘和粗颗粒混合均匀.使结合剂在粗级粒表面形成一层薄膜,然后加人耐火材料细粉及石墨,混合均匀后成形。经热处理后,作为结合剂的树脂固化形成一个固化树脂框架把耐火材料组分和石墨结合起来。制品经碳化后,树脂框架被碳化而成为碳框架。显然,碳框架的连续性及强度对制品的性质有很大影响。对耐火材料及石墨的浸润性能好且残碳高的结合剂。会形成完整性好、强度离的碳框架。这种把耐火材料及石墨倾粒结合起来的碳被称为结合碳,结合碳的结构及性质与石墨碳不同,结合碳在软较周围形成一层结合碳膜,此膜构成一空间
